My dream assignment would be to document women who have been released from prison, with a particular focus on women of color. I’ve found that there is rich storytelling in their goal to remain out of the system and acclimate to their new found freedom. My hope is to shoot this series for TIME or National Geographic.
Culture is driven by creatives of color but so often mainstream media removes the cultural significance, voice, and tone and seemingly co-opts our brain power. Lifting up and centering stories of color is critical, as is making space for women and creatives of color to tell their own stories. Prioritizing this will provide those in creative industries access to the diverse perspectives that are crucial in the creation of socially relevant and impactful art and media.
