I think it’s so important and inspiring when photo editors, art directors, and artists push to give viewers a different and perhaps more relevant perspective of the world/story through their hiring choices. The decision makers, whether they are at the hiring level or the creative level, have the power to define a new direction. The Vogue September issue - traditionally the largest and most influential issue of the year - that was recently published features cover photography from a young black photographer - Tyler Mitchell. Given the amount of control that Beyoncé was given, she made the choice to widen the approach and view of what the world actually looks like through this choice. That's powerful.
My dream assignment is to photograph a portfolio of diverse artists in Los Angeles practicing in different mediums. To give viewers a peek into the growing community of creatives in the city and their spaces, showing how different their backgrounds are, encouraging others to imagine the possibilities of their own future.
